Pretty in Pink is a film about Andie, an earnest, hard-working girl who was literally born on the wrong side of the tracks. Not accepted by the "richies" at school and in fact frequently maligned by them, she spends her time amongst lovable misfits and other colorful characters who share with her not only an excellent, almost uncanny sense of style but also her intense dislike of the advantaged kids. In spite of this it's somehow no surprise when she falls for the "beautiful", likable Blaine, and he for her--instantly putting themselves at odds with nearly everyone and everything they've ever known. A Romeo and Juliet tale with a twist (in which Juliet also hand-sews impossibly great ensembles), Pretty in Pink is a fashion-forward 80's film that also manages to legitimately pull at the heart strings.
