Heathers is a seminal 80's black comedy which succinctly explores the fundamentals of human nature, all within the environment of a midwestern high school. perhaps the first of its kind, it's a film in which social stereotypes are, to some extent, exaggerated, for purposes of highlighting and providing said commentary on the social stratum—not just in the high school, but in the world at large. The conflict between these stereotypes becomes the fodder for much of the chaos that ensues. the popular crowd—Heather McNamara, Heather Duke, Heather Chandler and Veronica Sawyer—are highly stylized, dressing like middle-aged socialites; one could argue this is both telling and tongue-in-cheek. Unsentimental, vicious, and often quite funny, Heathers provides a classically satirical vision of our social structures while providing valid argument against any sort of ironic detachment from them.

My teen angst bullshit has a body count.
